Call for Award Nominations

The BOC is requesting nominations for the Dan Libera Service Award, Denise Fandel Award of Excellence and the Paul Grace Leadership Award.

Award recipients will be honored during the 2023 BOC Volunteer Reception at the NATA Convention in Indianapolis.

To nominate a deserving volunteer, please review the description, criteria and nomination instructions below for each award.

Dan Libera Award

The Dan Libera Award was created by the BOC in recognition of Dan’s contributions to the BOC certification program. The award recognizes BOC volunteers who have shown dedication to the mission of the BOC to provide exceptional credentials and standards the public can trust. The award focuses on a nominee’s long-standing service, previous and current, in any of the following roles: board director, committee member, task force member, work group member, special project participant, test site administrator, test materials coordinator, test examiner or test model facilitator. Additional achievements/contributions related to the BOC and/or the athletic training profession will also be considered.

Nominations

Deadline: April 28, 2023

Nominating a deserving volunteer for the Dan Libera Service Award is a multi-step process. The nominator should complete the following steps prior to the deadline:

  • Notify the nominee of the intent to nominate them for the award.
  • Write a letter of nomination, which should include a description of the relationship between the nominator and nominee, as well as specific examples which illustrate why the nominee deserves the award.
  • Collaborate with the nominee to complete the nomination form.
  • Ask the nominee to select one person familiar with their professional path who can author an advocate letter.
  • Contact each author to request a letter.

All materials are to be submitted to StephanieH@bocatc.org by April 28, 2023.

Denise Fandel Award of Excellence

The Denise Fandel Award of Excellence was established by the BOC Board of Directors to recognize individuals or groups who have demonstrated excellence in mentoring and fostering growth to members of the athletic training community through a visionary and selfless approach. Denise served the BOC as Chief Executive Officer for 22 years and during that time was instrumental in building a governance structure and culture that empowered and inspired others to also become effective board leaders. The recipients of the award must emulate Denise’s exceptional ability to influence leadership growth and cultivate learning and development in others.

Criteria for the nominee include:

The nominee shall demonstrate evidence of excellence in mentoring and fostering growth in others through the following characteristics:

  • Visionary
  • Altruism
  • Integrity and abilities:
  • Builds meaningful relationships
  • Cultivates learning and development
  • Facilitates innovation

Paul Grace Leadership Award

The Paul Grace Leadership Award was established by the BOC Board of Directors to recognize individuals who have excelled in developing, designing and/or implementing programs or practices that contribute to the mission of the BOC to provide exceptional credentials and standards the public can trust. The ultimate visionary and cultivator of leaders, Paul served the BOC as Executive Director for 15 years and during that time was the influential leader for the BOC certification program. He has been recognized nationally as one of the top leaders by the certification community.

Criteria for the nominee include:

* Service as an advocate for the benefits of BOC certification to the public and/or the professional occupational communities

* Demonstrate evidence of significant contributions to the BOC mission through:

* Innovative leadership activities related to BOC programs or aspects of BOC programs

* Research activities that benefit BOC programs

* Activities that benefit consumers of BOC services or services of BOC Certified Athletic Trainers

  • Notify the nominee of the intent to nominate them for the award.
  • Write a letter of nomination, which should include a description of the relationship between the nominator and nominee, as well as specific examples which illustrate why the nominee deserves the award.
  • Collaborate with the nominee to complete the nomination form.
  • Ask the nominee to select two people familiar with their professional path who can author an advocate letter.
  • Contact each author to request a letter.
  • Submit the nomination letter, nomination form and advocate letters by the deadline.
