Athletic Trainer Director
The BOC Nominating Committee is seeking applications from Athletic Trainers (ATs) interested in serving as an AT Director on the BOC Board of Directors. Individuals on the BOC Board of Directors enjoy serving the athletic training community, building strong relationships and engaging in opportunities to gain valuable governance and leadership experience while networking with other leaders in the athletic training community.
Board Composition
The BOC encourages diversity of representation, viewpoints and experiences to contribute to and guide the vision and work of the BOC. As such, there are opportunities for all to participate through volunteer and leadership roles.
The BOC board consists of nine voting members. Therefore, it is extremely important that the board be intentional about giving a voice to groups who may be underrepresented on the board – both now and in the future (as current directors leave the board). This intentionally has been an ongoing practice of the BOC Nominating Committee in the past, and this practice will continue as applications are reviewed this year.
Candidate Overview
The Board will be appointing two new members, one of whom ideally will be a practicing clinician in the secondary school or college/university/junior college setting.
The BOC welcomes AT Director applicants from all sexes, genders, races/ethnicities and geographic locations.
ATs with an understanding of current and future trends within the greater health care industry and who meet the qualifications below are encouraged to apply.
Candidates should possess both the qualifications and core competencies listed below to be successful as a board member:
Qualifications
- BOC Certified AT for five or more years prior to appointment
- In good standing with the BOC
- Holds an NPI number
- Maintains a current state license or equivalent credential in good standing (if the state of residence or practice regulates the profession of athletic training)
- Demonstrates experience or knowledge with oversight boards within and/or outside the profession of athletic training (e.g., National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA), Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE), state athletic training organization, state regulatory board, credentialing board)
- Does not currently hold an elected or appointed office on any state, provincial or national regulatory board
- Does not currently serve on the CAATE Commission, NATA or NATA Foundation Board of Directors
- Does not hold financial interest in an entity that would conflict with BOC vision and mission decision-making
Core Competencies
The BOC expects each board director to possess a set of core competencies that are foundational in driving the mission and vision of the BOC. As organizational leaders, directors must demonstrate integrity through honesty, confidentiality and discretion. In addition, they need to show accountability through timely preparation of board assignments and thoughtful engagement in meetings. It’s imperative that director collaboration is effective and proactive with board members in order to achieve results aligned with the BOC mission. A director leverages their leadership talents to positively influence and guide others upholding the mission of the BOC. In addition, directors are adept at delivering clear, succinct, audience-appropriate communication.
All members of the BOC Board of Directors are expected to demonstrate the following fiduciary responsibilities: Duty of Care, Duty of Loyalty, and Duty of Obedience. Click here to learn more.
All application materials are due by July 11, 2022.
