BOC Approved Providers receive the recognition of being a BOC Approved Provider providing quality continuing education (CE) courses for Certified Athletic Trainers (ATs). To help you succeed, the BOC provides you with the AP Update newsletter and Cert Update publication informing you of changes in the credentialing process, trends in the profession and so much more. The key to success includes a discount on marketing opportunities through the leasing of the BOC’s complete list of AT mailing and/or email addresses. This list can be broken down in a variety of ways to fit your needs. The BOC also provides your organization a certificate to represent your status as a BOC Approved Provider to display at your CE events. BOC Approved Providers have exclusive access to the BOC Approved Provider logo to use on marketing materials and certificates of attendance.

The BOC Approved Provider Program was established to provide BOC Certified ATs with an extensive network of CE providers. BOC Approved Providers assist ATs advance their knowledge, skills and abilities by offering CE courses and activities which fall under the domains of athletic training as defined in the current BOC Role Delineation/Practice Analysis. Participation in these approved programs assist ATs in maintaining their BOC certification while allowing them to select programs specific to their individual needs.

The BOC approves providers of CE activities, not individual live events. Provider approval is granted annually and covers any live event offered by the BOC Approved Provider, provided that the event falls within the domains of athletic training. Home study courses are reviewed and approved on an individual basis under a separate application. Live events are not required to be pre-approved.

Yes. There are currently more than 40,000 BOC Certified Athletic Trainers (ATs) and approximately 1,100 BOC Approved Providers. Additional BOC Approved Providers provide a variety of CE options for ATs.

While applying for BOC Approved Provider status, CE providers may also apply to become a Home Study Program Provider. Each home study course must be individually approved. All home study courses go through an individual peer review process. Three content experts review each home study course. Home study applications may also be submitted any time after being granted BOC Approved Provider status. When submitting a Home Study Application, complete program materials and comprehensive program instructions must also be submitted. It is a requirement that home study courses include an assessment at the completion of the program.

The BOC Role Delineation/Practice Analysis outlines and defines the duties of ATs. This publication helps BOC Approved Providers to determine whether a CE activity meets the BOC guidelines. BOC Approved Providers receive a subscription to the Cert Update, an informative publication published twice a year that is mailed to all ATs. This publication has been added to the list of services in response to requests from BOC Approved Providers for additional information on issues pertinent to the athletic training profession. BOC Approved Providers also receive a semi-annual newsletter titled AP Update, which contains the latest information related to BOC Approved Providers, continuing education and current trends in athletic training.

BOC Approved Providers can submit their live events for listing on the BOC’s online Calendar of Events, and BOC approved home study courses are automatically listed in the searchable CE database. Copies of the BOC Approved Provider logo should be used when advertising programs and on certificates of completion or other documentation indicating attendance. Logo usage must adhere to the BOC's specifications.
